About this book
African Nature Notes and Reminiscences lists notes on the spotted hyæna, with headings concerning its character, its food and the strength of its jaws. The contents list wild dogs hunting in packs, attacking a herd of buffaloes, pursuing antelopes and displaying great pace.
The account says that any tse-tse flies in a district increase very rapidly as the days grow longer and hotter and the nights less cold. The observer thinks the insects become most numerous and most troublesome in October and November, just before the rainy season begins. The observer finds the insects perhaps less exasperating during the rainy season, while reporting that experience still found them both numerous and troublesome.
