About this book
Bird Life Glimpses is a book by Edmund Selous, with 6 full-page illustrations by G. E. Lodge. The preface says the author came to live at Icklingham in Suffolk in the autumn of 1899 and kept a day-to-day journal of field observation and reflection. The preface describes the author as one who professes nothing except to have used his eyes and ears to the best of his ability. The author remembers a cold afternoon in December in a plantation of young oaks and beeches where the rooks come nightly to roost.
The text asks whether even the actual building of the nest may have had a nervous, a frenzied, origin. The author writes of a dabchick with one chick, and of the old birds that frequently ascended and sat in a nest.
