About this book

This volume joins two works by Samuel Taylor Coleridge: Aids to Reflection and The Confessions of an Inquiring Spirit. A transcriber's note says the Aphorisms on that which is indeed Spiritual Religion run from page 102 to 241, interspersed with other material, and that the book has extensive footnotes.

An introductory discussion in the pages sampled names two distinctions as the key to the system it describes: between nature and free-will, and between the understanding and reason. Another passage says the understanding is limited to objects of sense, and speaks of the mysteries of Faith, naming the Trinity, Apostacy, the Origin of Evil and the Incarnation of the Word. Quotations from the Gospel of John appear, with a mention of the communion service.
