About this book

Confessions of an Inquiring Spirit and Some Miscellaneous Pieces is by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Miscellaneous essays from The Friend are added to the Confessions. An introduction says that Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born on the 21st of October, 1772, youngest of many children of the Rev. John Coleridge, Vicar of the Parish and Head Master of the Grammar School of Ottery St. Mary, in Devonshire.

The text speaks of the differences between the several Reformed Churches, set out according to five main classes or sections, in order to complete a Confession of Faith. A section headed The Sacrament of the Eucharist names, as the best preparation for taking this sacrament, reading over and over again, and often on one's knees, the Gospel according to St. John. Another piece says that, though his temper was constitutionally irritable and uneven, never was a commander so enthusiastically loved by men of all ranks, from the captain of the fleet to the youngest ship-boy.
