About this book

Clara Dillingham Pierson gathers the ducks, hens, horses, sheep, and other residents of a busy farmyard and lets them speak for themselves in this set of gentle animal tales. Each story follows a different creature through a small drama of barnyard life, and along the way young readers pick up real facts about how these animals feed, live, and raise their young. Pierson wrote for the youngest listeners, framing the book as stories a mother might read aloud, and she took care that the natural history behind the fancy was sound. The tone is warm and unhurried, with a light moral touched into most tales. It belongs to her much loved 'Among the People' series of nature stories. Free to read in PDF and EPUB.
