About this book

When the sun goes down, another world wakes up, and Clara Dillingham Pierson turns her attention to the creatures that live in it. Owls, bats, moths, raccoons, mice, and other night dwellers each take a turn in these short stories, going about the business of hunting, feeding, and raising their young while most of the countryside sleeps. As in the rest of her 'Among the People' series, the animals talk and reason, yet Pierson keeps their habits true to life so that young listeners learn as they are entertained. The tone stays gentle and reassuring, with small lessons about courage and good behavior tucked into the dark. It is a fine introduction to nocturnal nature for the very young.
