About this book
Ancient Scottish Lake-Dwellings or Crannogs is by Robert Munro and comes with a supplementary chapter on remains of lake-dwellings in England. The preface says the primary object contemplated was to place before general readers a record of some remarkable discoveries recently made in the south-west of Scotland, in a department of Archæology hitherto little known. The text says the Swiss lake villages, though singularly enough unnoticed by historians, were occupied as late as the Roman period.
The text says that frequent references have been made in the Irish annals to the stockaded islands, or as they are here called Crannoges, as existing in Ireland down to the Middle Ages. A section on Articles made of Bronze or Brass says that Fig. 175 represents a curiously-shaped ornament, reminding one of the head of a bee. Under Miscellaneous Objects, the text lists Beads, among them one small yellowish bead of vitreous paste.
