About this book
The Lake-Dwellings of Europe by Robert Munro presents the Rhind lectures in archaeology for 1888. The illustrated object lists identify flint implements, horn dishes, ornamented bone combs, clay figurines, and bronze weapons among the material recorded. The discussion of Chierici's theory says that the deposition of the higher parts of the mound remained unexplained because pools of water at the necessary heights were difficult to conceive.
The argument raises a further objection concerning the transport of water to elevated sites without a hydraulic system, although such sites in most cases contained the palafitte and dyke. The discussion of finds at La Tène describes weapons, implements, and ornaments as evidence of the owners' metallurgical skill before any influences from Roman art.
