About this book
Angling Sketches has a contents list that, among others, names The Confessions of a Duffer, A Border Boyhood, Loch Awe, The Bloody Doctor and The Complete Bungler. A preface says several of the sketches in the volume have appeared in periodicals, and that The Confessions of a Duffer, Loch Awe and The Lady or the Salmon? were in the Fishing Gazette, but have been to some extent re-written.
A speaker says, "I would as soon lay down a love of books as a love of fishing." A passage says many causes have combined to extirpate the shy and spirited fish, and gives as the first that there are too many anglers. A passage says that Isaacs never came and Allen fell asleep, and that Allen had a very distinct and singular dream.
