About this book
Arthur by Laurence Binyon is labelled on its title page as a tragedy. A list of characters includes, among others, Queen Guenevere, Elaine and Lynned, a nun. The fifth scene is set in the Queen’s tower at night, with Guenevere standing by a window, holding the curtain and peering out.
Mordred and his men bring a bench and begin to batter at the door. Colegrevance comes in, Launcelot shuts the door and bolts it in an instant, and with a great buffet stuns Colegrevance. Agravaine says the truth is out, and Launcelot shall die for all his champions. The knights pass out in great turmoil, Mordred lingering last, and Mordred says “I have pulled the sluice.”
