Aunt Jane’s Nieces Abroad is a 1906 novel by L. Frank Baum (1856-1919), the creator of Oz, writing for older girls under his pen name Edith Van Dyne. The three nieces tour Italy with their uncle and meet brigands, a Vesuvius eruption, and assorted adventures unthinkable in Kansas. The Aunt Jane’s Nieces series sold strongly for a decade and shows the Oz man working the girls’ series market that Stratemeyer had made big business. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
