About this book
Autobiography of Countess Tolstoy is a book credited to S. A. Tolstaia. The contents list names, among others, a preface by Vassili Spiridonov and appendices headed Semen Afanasevich Vengerov and Nikolai Nikolaevich Strakhov.
The work did not satisfy Vengerov, who evidently did not find in it information as to the life in Yasnaya Polyana during the time when War and Peace and Anna Karenina were written. S. A. T. sent the new material accompanied by a letter dated 24 March, 1914, which thanks Semen Afanasevich very much for advising her to write one more chapter. The journey home from Krekshino through Moscow was terrible, according to the text, and several thousands of people came to the Kursk Station to see the party off.
