About this book
A short message from the author says the book is directed at children, up to about third grade, though it should be read to them by an adult. Baartock is seven years old, sitting by the side of the old two lane country road, crying and alone for hours. Baartock had been waiting all day to scare someone, but no one came, which is a bad thing to happen to a troll on his first day.
Mr. Fennis offers to take Baartock home, and Baartock points up the hill. Baartock and Mrs. Stogbuchner are the last ones out, and Baartock is told that when the bell rings like that it is a fire alarm and everyone is supposed to get out of the building as quickly and safely as possible. Jason asks Baartock "Your dad knows about bridges?" and Baartock answers "Can build better bridge". Baartock's mother called him over and they got back in the car and went home.
