About this book
The Cathedral Church of Chichester presents a short history and description of the building, together with an account of the diocese and see. The preface acknowledges that many authorities supplied the facts used in the history and that references to some of those authorities appear in the text. The account of construction says that neither documentary evidence nor the condition of the fabric permits more than a surmise about the building's condition early in the twelfth century.
The description of the exterior explains how a string-course beneath the parapet's coping helps throw water clear of the wall. The South Porch opens directly into the west walk of the cloister.
