Bird Day; How to Prepare for It is a book by Charles Almanzo Babcock. The author's note says the aim of the book is to assist school children in the accurate study of a few birds. A letter signed by J. Sterling Morton, Secretary of Agriculture, says: let us have a Bird Day, a day set apart from all the other days of the year to tell the children about the birds.

A section on songs of birds asks the reader to write the syllables that seem to express the different songs of birds, and says a song sparrow was observed to have twelve different songs. A section on free description of birds asks for a description of some bird of your acquaintance, noting among other things color, gait, flight, size from tip of beak to end of tail, and spread of wings. A bird description says the nest is composed of grasses, lined with finer grass, and built in a low bush or on the ground, and that the eggs vary greatly in size and markings but are generally five in number.
