About this book

Boy Scouts in the Canal Zone, or The Plot Against Uncle Sam, is by Scout Master G. Harvey Ralphson. The contents list chapters called The Plot Against the Gatun Dam, Theft of the Emerald Necklace, How the Trick was Turned, The Man in the Closet, A Bomb and a Ruined Temple and Explosives for the Gatun Dam.

Peter says the man's name was Balboa, who looked out on the big ocean for the first time on the 26th of September, 1513, though some say it was the 25th. Frank laughs that someone might look up his emerald necklace while about it, and the lieutenant says, as he has before remarked, find Pedro and you'll find the necklace. A shrill bird-call sounds in the darkness and is followed by the report of a revolver, and the light leaps into the globes, making the place, the entire length of the canal dam, the spillway and the locks, as bright as day.
