The Boy Scouts of Lenox, by Frank V. Webster, carries the subtitle Or The Hike Over Big Bear Mountain and is illustrated. In one scene the boys Josh, George Cooper, Felix Robbins and Tom talk about a scout manual that Josh sent off for, and Josh describes a test in which a boy studies a store window for two minutes and then lists the objects he remembers.
In another, the boys watch a crowd of others pelting an old man with snowballs. A different passage has Mr. Witherspoon, who says he is acting as scout master, speak with a farmer, Mr. Brush, who has dogs with him, and invite him to join them by the fire. In a third, three people stuck in the mire, among them Tony Pollock, call to the scouts to get them out.
