About this book
The Automobile Girls at Chicago: Or, Winning Out Against Heavy Odds is by Laura Dent Crane. The contents list names, among others, "The Man in Section Thirteen", "The Missing Passenger" and "The Mystery of the Iron Gates".
The text says the forward end of the car appeared to plunge down head first, and that the two girls were tumbled into one end of their berth. Barbara braces herself with all her might and has reasoned that they would be safer in their berth than out of it. The train, which had not been moving very fast, gives a sudden, sickening lurch and lies over on its side, with crashing glass. Bob Stevens promises the girls that he will show them his diagrams after he finishes his conference with Mr. Presby, and Olive says her father was disturbed when he found they had gone over to the Indian mounds alone. Barbara asks Ruth, "do you think there really is a hidden treasure", and Ruth says, "I haven't much faith in the treasure".
