About this book
Brazil Today and Tomorrow, by L. E. Elliott Joyce, includes an account of gold mining in Brazil and the companies working there. The mining account describes two companies as British owned and operated, both working in the State of Minas Geraes at the time of writing. The discussion says that a certain amount of Brazilian gold is absorbed internally each year by native goldsmiths making special jewellery, although no estimate of its value is obtainable.
The immigration account says that São Paulo received nearly 45,000 immigrants in 1920, the bulk of all entrants. The immigration account describes southerly Japanese colonies producing rice, silk and tea.
