About this book
The discussion of bronze implements identifies the celt as probably the most widely distributed and best known of their varying forms. The account says the celt is generally admitted to have served both everyday purposes and warfare, functioning as a chisel, wedge or wood-splitting hatchet. The explanation describes the flat celt as the earliest form and derives it from the stone implement.
The armour discussion describes a plate attached to the cuirass by a strap, allowing greater freedom for the arms. The account of elbow protection describes an enlarged outer plate, sometimes of very large proportions. The description of a weapon records barrels often made of brass or bronze and polygonal in section.
