About this book
Cave Hunting presents research on the evidence of caves concerning the early inhabitants of Europe, with a coloured plate and woodcuts. The geological account describes mountain limestone as thick masses of hard rock separated by soft shale beds and containing producti, crinoids and corals. The account identifies rain as the evident means by which bones entered the rock space, rather than transport by carnivorous animals.
The examination of animal remains reports that nearly all the bones were broken and belonged to young animals, with some showing signs of gnawing by dogs. A reconstruction of the Mediterranean area in the pleistocene age describes Malta and Sicily as hilly plateaux overlooking an undulatory plain.
