About this book
Caxton's Book: A Collection of Essays, Poems, Tales, and Sketches is by the late W. H. Rhodes, edited by Daniel O'Connell. The preface says the sketches and poems in this volume were written at a time when the author was engaged in the practice of a laborious profession.
The preface says Mr. Rhodes intended to collect them from the various newspapers and periodicals in which they had appeared. A speaker says an old man rapped at his office door and introduced himself as Gregory Summerfield. A speaker mentions narrating the history of his escape from the Living City of the aborigines, and says he has spent three years and a half of his early manhood amongst a monumental race. A writer says that, during the burning of the Putnam House, a man rescued two ladies from the flames.
