About this book
Class Book for the School of Musketry, Hythe is a book by Ernest Christian Wilford. The title page says the book was prepared for the use of officers by Colonel E. C. Wilford, Assistant-Commandant and Chief Instructor. The introduction says the School of Musketry was founded in 1853 as a normal school of instruction in Musketry.
The book describes wild fire, saying the Crusaders obtained a knowledge of a sort of wild fire from the Saracens, which could only be extinguished by dust or vinegar. The book also notes that it was not uncommon to give strange names to early cannon, and that Louis XII. had twelve brass ones cast in 1503, of enormous size. The book also explains that by a motion of rotation, a body without changing its place, turns round on an axis passing through its centre of gravity.
