About this book
Companion to the Bible is a work by E. P. Barrows. The general preface says the design of the present work, as its title indicates, is to assist in the study of God's word. The preface says the author has had special reference to teachers of Bible classes and Sabbath-schools, and to ministers of the gospel who wish to have ready at hand the results of biblical investigation in a convenient and condensed form.
The text presents the reader with a brief summary of the historic evidence by which the Bible, with the plan of salvation which it reveals, is shown to be the word of God. Following the Hebrew order, the text sets out general divisions that include prophecies addressed to Judah, with which are connected many notices of Jeremiah's personal history. On sacrifice, the text says the scriptural idea of a sacrifice is the offering to God of one life in behalf of another that has been forfeited by sin.
