About this book
Constantinople Old and New is a book by H. G. Dwight. The opening note says that a number of years ago it happened to the writer of this book to live in Venice. The writer recalls saying to himself, "I know Constantinople quite as well as Mr. Howells knew Venice," and asking why he should not write a "Constantinople Life".
A mosque in Scutari is popularly called the Valideh Jedid, the mosque of the New Mother. The text mentions a fountain of marble embroideries that stands outside the north gate of the mosque yard. The text says that Jason stopped on his way to get the Golden Fleece, and that after him Beshiktash was known in antiquity as Iasonion.
