Control Group, by Roger D. Aycock, carries a teaser quoting the Handbook: "Any problem posed by one group of human beings can be resolved by any other group." The teaser asks, "But did that include primitive humans? Or the Bees?" Navigator Farrell is called the youngest and certainly most impulsive of the three-man Terran Reclamations crew. Gibson says, "No point in taking chances," and adds that they are two hundred twenty-six light-years from Sol, at the old limits of Terran expansion.
Stryker says he saw them: "I fought them for the better part of the century they were here, and I learned there's no predicting nor understanding them." Farrell shakes his head at an inference and says, "No shipboard society could last through a thousand-year space voyage."
