About this book

The book says it is presented to each member of His Majesty's Forces who joined up from the Skipton Parliamentary Division, or to their next of kin, as a memento of the noble part that Craven played in the Great War. The text says the signing was received with great rejoicing throughout Britain, a notable demonstration being made outside Buckingham Palace, where the King, the Queen, their three sons and Princess Mary appeared on the balcony and were enthusiastically greeted. The text says the Chinese refusal to sign was due to the fact that the Council of Four could not see their way to reserve the question of Shantung for future consideration.

A section headed Craven in Flanders gives a war record of a battalion of the Duke of Wellingtons (West Riding) Regiment. A list gives entries such as a private of the Seaforth Highlanders killed in action in the Persian Gulf 20th April, 1916, aged 24 years. A list of names gives ranks, the letters M.M., regiments and home places, as in an entry for a Corporal of the Machine Gun Corps, of Settle.
