About this book
Danger, with the subtitle Or, Wounded in the House of a Friend, is a work by T. S. Arthur, and its title page is dated 1875. The preface says that bars and drinking-saloons are, in reality, not so much the causes as the effects of intemperance, and that the chief causes are to be found in our homes.
Policemen call, and all that can be learned from them is that Archie Voss had not come home from the party and that his friends were greatly alarmed about him. A policeman gives two theories of the absence: one is that the young man was set upon in the street and robbed, and the other is that, stupefied and bewildered by drink, he lost himself in the storm. The text says that the harvest society reaps every year is fearfully great and that the seed from which too large a portion of it comes is its drinking customs.
