About this book
Deaconesses in Europe and their Lessons for America is a book by Jane M. Bancroft. The author's note says that the author has aimed to present an accurate and concise statement of the deaconess cause as it exists at the present time. The text cites Acts vi, 3, where we read of the appointment of the deacons, men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and of wisdom.
The text also quotes the commendation of Phebe, a deacon of the church which is at Cenchrea. A quoted passage says that the consecration is not a sacramental act conferring special powers, but a real and efficacious benediction. The text calls incalculable the good that can be accomplished by deaconesses working together with ministers in behalf of the manifold interests of the Church.
