About this book
Development of the Digestive Canal of the American Alligator is by A. M. Reese and is described as with fifteen plates. The text describes a slightly later stage shown in figure 2, a dorsal view of an embryo with five pairs of mesoblastic somites. The text says figure 3 is a dorsal view of the next stage to be described, with about fifteen pairs of somites present.
The text describes the foregut as a wide cavity, depressed dorsally, apparently, by the formation of the medullary groove and the notochord. The text says the epithelium of one part of the intestine consists of a single layer of clear, columnar cells, which, around the borders of the opening, are thrown into numerous folds and are almost of goblet form. A list pairs short letter codes with parts, among others mk with Meckel's cartilage, ml with muscle layer and ms with mesentery.
