About this book
The book treats the anatomy of the domestic fowl, with a foreword noting a demand for an anatomical textbook from agricultural colleges and experiment stations. The two abdominal air-sacs lie on each side of the abdominal cavity and form enormous bladder-like structures when inflated with air. The abdominal air-sacs have ligament-like attachments along their medial, anterior and lateral margins, while their posterior, dorsal and ventral margins are free.
The preparation instructions make dehydration time dependent on the size of the material and require tissue to remain in strong alcohol until well hardened. The clarifying procedure takes material from benzol into winter-green oil or another standard clearer before placing it in its final position in a museum jar.
