About this book
Divine Songs, by Isaac Watts, is a book of songs attempted in the easy language of children. The dedication is addressed to the daughters of Sir Thomas Abney, Kt. and Alderman of London. The dedication says that the generous and condescending friendship of the parents, under the writer's weak circumstances of health, brought the writer to their Country-Seat for the Benefit of the Air.
A song titled Love between Brothers and Sisters says that whatever brawls are in the street, there should be peace at home, and quarrels should never come where sisters dwell and brothers meet. A song headed Against Scoffing and calling Names includes the line Our tongues were made to bless the Lord. One verse resolves to strive to mend what's amiss and to endure what can't be mended. A song headed Summer's evening includes the line How fine has the day been! how bright was the sun!
