About this book
Fog covers Crescent Bay as Richard Gregory and Bill Lang take a fishing boat toward El Diablo before dawn. They suspect that Mascola is hiding unlawful activity around the island and using threats to keep other fishermen away. Their approach through dark channels and dangerous reefs establishes a coastal adventure in which access to fishing waters has become a matter of power and personal risk.
Brayton Norton sets the novel among fishing communities in Southern California, with boats, nets, island coves and rival crews shaping the action. The later excerpt introduces Kenneth Gregory, Dickie Lang and Jack McCoy amid a violent confrontation and an urgent call for help. Nautical detail gives the suspense a practical foundation: earning a living at sea depends on skill, trust and the freedom to work.
