About this book
Glimpses of America is called a pictorial and descriptive history of Our Country’s Scenic Marvels, delineated by pen and camera, by J. W. Buel. The title page says its author, in a special photograph car and accompanied by a corps of accomplished artists, visited every part of the United States and Canada to picture and describe all the wonderful scenery found therein. Coating Spring Terrace is said to afford perhaps a better example of the formation of these monuments of Nature than any of the others, with water flowing gently over a succession of steps and depositing calcareous substances.
The text describes a boat excursion at Palatka up the Ocklawaha River to Silver Spring and Ocala, the head of navigation on that stream. The text describes the Ocklawaha River as at once a lagoon, a narrow lake, and a swamp, with a current that is scarcely perceptible. The text says that, scenically considered, the Columbia is the most delightful river known to modern geographers, and that its shores are mountainous.
