About this book
The author's preface rejects fanciful hypotheses as a path to the true causes of the phenomena continually encountered by an observer. The discussion of neutral salts says neither of the two saline principles may predominate if the salts are to be perfectly neutral. The explanation states that the saline substances can unite only in a limited proportion, beyond which no further coalition is possible.
The text names the action accomplishing perfect union saturation. The definition of the point of saturation describes proportions in which one substance incorporates as much of the other as it can take up. An experimental account describes resorting to fermentation after unsuccessful attempts to obtain a desired oil by distilling excrement in many different ways.
