About this book
Establishing Relations is a book by W. W. Jacobs. Mr. Richard Catesby, second officer of the ss. Wizard, emerges from the dock-gates in high good-humour to spend an evening ashore. Bashford's Lane is called a retiring thoroughfare facing a blank dock wall.
Mr. Catesby stops for another look at a girl standing in the ground-floor window of No. 5. Mr. Catesby says to himself, solemnly, “You've got it at last, Dick Catesby,” and “It's serious this time.” Mrs. Truefitt says “I never heard such impudence” after a constable had taken his departure, and Prudence says, in a clear voice, “Only a little weak in the head, I think.” Mrs. Porter says “Come along, Joe,” and Mr. Catesby attempts to shake her off, but in vain.
