About this book
Ethel Morton's Holidays is credited to Mabell S. C. Smith. The contents list, among others, has chapters called PREPARATIONS, HALLOWE'EN and MISS MERRIAM.
In the chapter headed PREPARATIONS, a big brown automobile gives three honks as it swings around the corner from Church Street, and Roger Morton, raking leaves in the yard beside his house, throws down his rake and vaults over the gate. Helen laughs, saying to save the top for a hat and that she will trim it with brown ribbon and set a new style at school. The text says the ship was about as full as she could be now, with her officers standing, one on the deck and the others on the two chairs, and the sailors manning the rail. The Ethels and Dorothy all sang in the choruses, and each one of them had a part in the program, the text says.
