About this book
The Children of Wilton Chase is by L. T. Meade. The contents list chapters called Marjorie's Way, Shark, Ermengarde's Sin, The Day of the Picnic, Locked in the Cupboard and A Stolen Treasure.
A speaker wishes Basil would speak to father about it, since they are only to have half-holidays, with lessons all the morning and the afternoons with Basil, and calls it Aunt Elizabeth's doing. Eric hopes that the big ferret is not making his way out, and says it has teeth like razors and, once it catches on, never lets go. Ermengarde pulls the little case from under the bed and cries that the ivory on which the picture is painted is cracked right across, giving a queer expression to the little girl's face. Marjorie asks Ermie, in a gentle voice, what she will do, and the text adds that Miss Nelson is waiting.
