Evangelical Lutheran hymn-book contains an order of morning service or communion, including directions for the congregation and the minister at the altar. The service allows a hymn invoking the Holy Ghost and calls for confession of sins with a true heart, seeking forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ. A hymn describes Christ as a shepherd who feeds the singer and leads the singer through green pasture beside still waters.
A hymn asks that divine love possess the whole soul and that every act, word, and thought become love. An evening hymn asks the Lord for safety through the night and for angels to guard the sleeper until morning light appears.
