About this book
The Otterbein Hymnal, for use in public and social worship, was prepared by Edmund S. Lorenz. The text says the General Conference of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, at its session in May, 1886, ordered that a small hymnal, adapted to general church purposes, be published soon. A piece called Gates of Praise asks to lift up the Gates of Praise that we may enter in, and to proclaim over salvation's walls that Christ redeems from sin.
Another piece, marked Psalm 148, calls on the heavens, the angels in the height, the sun and moon and all the stars of light to praise the Lord. A piece headed The Song of the Seraphs begins "Crown him with many crowns, The Lamb upon his throne." Credits in the text include Isaac Watts, 1719, and James Montgomery, 1825.
