The Bayeux Tapestry Elucidated includes a comparison of Master Wace with the tapestry as an illustration in a discussion of representations of earlier manners and customs. A quoted discussion of old manuscript pictures says their figures can wear the dress of the illuminators’ own time, even when representing much earlier subjects. The comparison with Wace contrasts a horse described as covered with iron against the absence of steel armour on any horse in the tapestry.
An account of a council describes a long debate, complaints, murmuring, and conversations among small groups about the answer and aid they would give. Some council participants say they fear the sea and are not bound to serve beyond it, while others are willing to bring ships and cross.
