About this book
Fairy Tales from Far and Near is written and illustrated by Katharine Pyle. The contents list names stories called Little Surya Bai, a Hindoo Story, and Graciosa and Percinet, a French Story, among others. The story says Surya Bai did not open the door or answer, for she was fast asleep and the little cat and dog were asleep also.
The text says that the fingernail of a Rakshas is very poisonous. A tale called The Blue Belt, A Norse Tale, has a beggar woman and her son walking along through the country, where they came to a crossroad with a handsome belt of blue leather lying in the dust of the road. Psyche answers that no task is too hard for her if only Eros will forgive her. Aphrodite says the task is to separate these seeds one from another, each kind in a separate heap, before evening.
