About this book
First and Last Things by H. G. Wells presents a confession of faith and a rule of life, with metaphysics and beliefs named among its divisions. The writer takes fact as something primary and unanalyzable and describes the ordinary situation of writing at a desk while sunlight falls across the paper.
The discussion of family life describes a growing view that a woman's primary duty is to her children and the world to which she gives them. The proposed relation between husband and wife makes the woman a citizen beside her husband, without his intervening between her and the community. The writer regards love as a synthetic thing in which almost every interest in a person's being may play a part.
