About this book
First Book in Physiology and Hygiene is by John Harvey Kellogg. A note headed To the Teacher says the book is intended for children. One lesson says that each leg has a hip, thigh, lower leg, ankle and foot, and that the toes are a part of the foot.
Chapter III, headed THE INSIDE OF THE BODY, says the reader very likely wants to ask a great many questions, such as how the inside of the body looks and what is in the skull. Wearing the clothing tight about the waist, the text says, often produces serious deformities of the bones of the trunk. By rough play or by accident, the text says, the bones may be broken in two just as you might break a stick.
