About this book
Flint and Feather: Collected Verse is by E. Pauline Johnson. The book carries an inscription to His Royal Highness The Duke of Connaught, who is Head Chief of the Six Nations Indians. The introduction, headed In Memoriam: Pauline Johnson, says Pauline Johnson expressed a wish on her death-bed that the writer, living here in the mother country all these miles away, should write something about her.
A poem addresses someone whose costume is loose and light and leaves unconcealed a might of muscle, half suspected, half defined. A verse describes a tiny archer whose quiver is filled with arrows dipped in honey, thrice distilled, and says to blame not young Cupid with his dart and bow. The text mentions an article that enunciated the thesis that if the English language should not in the near future contain the finest body of poetry in the world, the time is now upon us when it ought to do so.
