About this book
One poem in Martin Espada's collection is narrated by a Puerto Rican lawyer who takes a taxi over the Mystic Tobin Bridge after eviction day in court, where he translated for tenants. The driver warns him about the Josés in the neighbourhood, and the lawyer answers that he is one.
The ride recalls the Chuck Stuart case, in which a false story about a Black carjacker led to a search of Mission Hill.
