About this book
The Book with the Yellow Cover, by John Moncure Wetterau, contains poems, and a note lists where some of these poems first appeared. A note signed J.M.W. says "I had a book of Chinese and Japanese poems that I gave to a friend on the west coast." The note describes that book as "a very small book with a yellow cover, stapled together."
A poem titled The Japanese Mason describes "Without haste, gathering scrape of the trowel, slap of cement, reaching for a block, setting and tapping it level". In a poem headed Kauai Sweet Hawaii, the speaker says that even if somebody did steal a battery, generator, oil cap and visegrips last night, "I passed the test to be a taxi driver". A poem headed Elegy For Simenon gives "Fresh air, faintly salty, smell of bark and fallen apples, small pond, lily pads, dark water."
