The Influence of the Stars is subtitled A Book of Old World Lore. Rosa Baughan, author of The Handbook of Palmistry, divides it into three parts: astrology, chiromancy and physiognomy. The title page adds chapters on the significance of the moles of the body, and on the mystical Wheel of Pythagoras and the methods of working it. This is the fourth edition, revised and enlarged, with ten plates and a date of 1904.
In one passage the author names Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Mercury, the Moon and the Sun and explains how, in this tradition, the planets and the sign of the zodiac at a person's birth shape appearance, character and fate. Another passage places the signs of the zodiac and the planets on the mounts of the hand. Another section sets out what moles on different parts of the body are said to mean.
