About this book
Frederic Chopin: His Life, Letters, and Works is the title of this volume, which is marked as Vol. I of a work in two volumes. The title page says the work was translated from the German by Emily Hill. A line on the title page, credited to Robert Schumann, says that Chopin is and remains the boldest and proudest poetic spirit of the age.
The text says that Nicholas Chopin, having lost his appointment with Starostin Lacynska, resolved to leave the country, but that illness forced him to remain in Warsaw. A letter dated Warsaw, March 27th, 1830 says, "I never missed you so much as now." A note says that Leopolda Blahetka, born in Vienna, Nov. 15th, 1811, was a distinguished pianoforte virtuoso, pupil of Czerny and Moscheles.
