About this book

Fresh Light from the Ancient Monuments by A. H. Sayce is described as a sketch of the most striking confirmations of the Bible from recent discoveries in Egypt, Palestine, Assyria, Babylonia and Asia Minor. The contents name chapters on, among others, The Book of Genesis, The Exodus out of Egypt, The Empire of the Hittites and The Assyrian Invasions.

The text on the cuneiform inscriptions says that their decipherment owes its final completion to Burnouf's pupil, Lassen, as well as to Sir Henry Rawlinson. The text says of one tunnel that it must have been known and used up to the time of the capture of Jerusalem by Titus, and that it is probably not older than the reign of Herod. A text set out in the book says that if it should not be the wish of the great king of the Hittites to march out in person, he shall send his warriors and his chariots that they may smite his enemies.
